In 823 (the 14th year of the Kōnin era in Japan), Emperor Saga bestowed Tō-ji Temple upon Kūkai (later Kōbō Daishi), thus making Tō-ji not only a place of protection for the nation but also the fundamental center of Shingon Buddhism. After Kōbō Daishi's arrival, Tō-ji officially began its activities. Under the heavy protection of the imperial court, Tō-ji's primary mission was to pray for the protection of the nation and the imperial family. Kōbō Daishi resided at Tō-ji until his later years when he moved to Kongōbu-ji Temple on Mount Kōya.

The combination with autumn leaves creates a unique Kyoto atmosphere.

Kiyomizu-yaki introduction

" Kyo-yaki " is a style of tea ceremony that originated in the early Edo period.

Kyoto pottery has primarily spread from the foothills of Higashiyama. On the other hand, " Kiyomizu-yaki " refers to pottery made at the entrance to Kiyomizu-dera Temple on Gojo-zaka. Currently, all pottery made in Kyoto is called " Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu-yaki ".

This type of glaze, known as crystalline glaze, is characterized by the precipitation of crystals during the melting and cooling process. Beautiful flower-shaped crystalline vessels appear as if flowers have bloomed on their surface. Most importantly, the crystals grew larger and took on various shapes. Furthermore, no two designs can be made the same; each piece is a unique work of art.
