We referenced Fushimi Inari Shrine, one of Japan's most popular tourist attractions.

Like other polytheistic religions, Japanese Shintoism believes that there are many different gods in nature, and most things have their own dedicated deities, such as sea gods and sun gods. Inari is said to be the god of rice, tea, and sake. Given the special significance of these three things in Japanese culture, it is not surprising that more than a third of Japan's shrines enshrine Inari.

According to ancient legends, the gods would choose an animal as their incarnation or a messenger, and the image of Inari was depicted as a white fox. Therefore, Inari shrines usually have small fox statues as guardians of the shrine.
